The historical name of this old-style Montana outfit is "The Diamond T Bar".  It is approximately 10 square miles/16 square kilometers (6,500 acres/26000 mål) in size.  The headquarters is at the head of South Dry Creek at an elevation of about 4300 feet/1400 meters.  The lowest point of the ranch is 4100 feet/1360 meters, and the highest point is 5700 feet/1900 meters.  It is a true joy for Scandinavians to ride over huge, grassy areas - trailing cattle - much as when the first cowboys brought cattle from Texas to Montana.

Wildlife seen here includes an abundance of mule deer, whitetail deer, occasional elk, black bears, beaver, muskrats, and coyotes. Sometimes a wolf wanders through. There are many species of upland game birds, waterfowl and other birds, (the local authority on "birding" says this ranch has more bird species than any place else in Montana and brings many of her birding friends here.)

Ron Goddard, the rancher and cowboy you will be riding with, has spent his 50+ years in the saddle. He has been a student of Ray Hunt, and other like-minded clinicians. He has studied cattle handling under the leading cattle behaviorists. But above all, he has a lifetime of learning with and from horses and cattle as he has lived the ‘old’ cowboy life for months at a time out of the chuck wagon on remote ranches in Montana, Nevada, Texas, Colorado, Utah and other western states. He now is willing to share his life and experience with those of you who want either a pleasant vacation in the saddle, or perhaps a more educational and skill-building session in the real environment. At this ranch, Ron still practices the old 'rodear' method of working with the cattle: gather and work the cattle without a fence or corral!

The Diamond T Bar Ranch is a no-nonsense, real working cowboy ranch, near historic Bridger in the home of cowboy country: Montana! Fly in to Billings, rent a car (so you can experience more of the area at your own leisure) and drive 65 miles/105km through cowboy country to spend an unforgettable time with Ron. The famous Yellowstone National Park is within a day’s drive.

Ron and his wife Kathleen have three capable children. These fine young people have grown up in the saddle:

  • Jason is 20 and living at home while going to school an hour away in Powell, Wyoming several days each week.
  • Jolee is 16, home-schooling and also going to Powell three days/week taking some college level courses.
  • Jacob is 12, home-schooled also and gone one day/week for school functions.

“I'm older than dirt and never go anywhere”, says Ron about himself.

You will be staying in the new, one room/full bath bunkhouse.  The bunkhouse has one queen size bed and one full size futon/sofa that can fold out to sleep one or two more.
You will enjoy Kathleen’s delicious family style meals at the ranch house eating  homegrown, organic, grass finished beef and (in season) organic, ranch garden vegetables, eggs from our free range flock of chickens and venison from deer taken on the ranch.

The Goddards are eager to help guests learn the skills that they use in the everyday operation of their ranch.  They are flexible and want you to have the best possible experience and make life-shaping memories.
